Can you jump in running shoes?
Amazaing
Such a shame that the +2.4 wind was just over the legal limit. In reality what real difference would that have made? Maybe 1 or 2 cm at absolute most. Rules are rules sadly. He also had a fair amount of take off board still available to him to have maybe jumped even further.
Could you explain the difference between the USATF National championship (in NY, NY this month) and the USATF junior Olympics (in TX next month)? My kids are ages 8-10 might quality. Curious which one to pursue. Not sure I want to do both. Thank!!
Youth nationals is a “showcase” meet which is a meet anyone who has a mark can get into. Junior Olympics is a “tournament” that both USATF and AAU have that has rounds of elimination to make it to a JO national championship. The JO tournament is much more competitive which leads to a more competitive competition.
Do the JO for more of a long term positive effect
@@keinanbriggs thanks so much for explaining that!!
L am back
college is not developmental. it is youth elite competition. D1 is not a place for development. Freshmen in D1 are expected to compete for Conference and National Championship points from Day 1. There is no learning curve in D1 If an incoming athlete is not on the D1 program's target performances list they MIGHT be sent to that college's "feeder program". More often than not, those farm schools are the programmes from which the D1 recruited their assistant coaches. That familiarity with the NAIA/D3/NJCAA school and state or regional level highschoolers. Those assistants will be expected to be familiar with that athlete pool. That familiarity will not last forever, as assistant coaches move on quite frequently. The level of "churn" with specific events coaches has more to do with pay than to do with either competency or loyalty. S&C coaches are not all the same. MOST S&C coaches in college programmes are certified from the lowest-cost, Olympic weightlifting-focused programmes. A college degree in S&C, physiology or exercise science is nearly useless-but they help former scholarship athlete graduates get internships (less than minimum wage pay, too many athletes in the program for proper supervision of S&C goals). ALL S&C coaches must also have a proper internship where they have DEMONSTRATED competency and excellence. Which athletes won? What were their progressions under the coach? If they cannot show this, then they are hiding something-or simply not experienced enough for you to expect good results. Is that D1 program's Seniors competing for championships? Because that's gonna be YOU in 4 years! If the current crop of athletes haven't improved, are not competing for rings, and are not in the race for Conference championships-then YOU ARE THE VEHICLE THEY EXPECT TO TAKE THEM THERE! Top programmes RELOAD not REBUILD. The transfer portal has changed the game for scholarship-ready freshmen. You are competing against kids who went to JuCo for two years and have proven themselves. A top D1 school in a competitive conference is NOT TAKING RISKS. They are reloading their roster.
I now discovered your channel. Enjoying thus far. I like your honest perspective.
Thank you and received
Excellent commenatary here. Thanks for sharing
Tib raises stopped him slumping through the step phase. Unreal athlete, just glides like Carl Lewis. Elastic band ligaments.
Hey Coach, I just finished my 8th grade track season. My best jump was 40’4” in the triple jump and 18’8” in the long jump (second time ever doing long jump). I want to get a full ride scholarship to a d1 school. Do you think I have what it takes? If so, what do I need to do to get there? (Videos are on my channel)
Wow congrats. Yes you have what it takes as long as you believe
Knees to the arm pits! This guy knows what he is talking about. West Coast 🖖🏾🎽🏅
you have to have a higher heel recovery on first phase I am a 44ft+ triple jumper rn in highschool and one thing that really helped me was almost hugging my jumping leg in mid air on my first phase You can see knee bends only about half the distance it should it should come up and be tucked under his hamstring and then extended again
How high is the bungee? I see it is attached to a hurdle so is it at the low setting? Thanks.
You are exactly right. I had a jumper this year that NEVER touched the board in competition. I had a bribe out there for her if she ever fouled…never happened. I was convinced that it was a perfectionist trait, but hadn’t considered that it might be a fear of failure or shame. Second…I firmly believe that there has never been a perfect triple jump. There’s so much going on that there’s always something that can be improved. I bet Willie Banks and Jonathan Edwards would agree!
Lit!
This is awesome
Do you recommend nike or adidas shoes for triple jump?
Adidas all day
Psalms 84:10-12 - "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
Former AAU coach here. I helped an upcoming sophomore train over the summer into indoor season. We did weights, plyometrics and sled work up to December. The coach trained her like she was out of shape with the other kids. Her performance dropped by .6 in the 100m and 2 seconds in the 200m. He couldn’t stand me for training her because everyone else knew what I did. I contacted several IVY league schools and got her into UPenn. This was over 18 years ago and he won’t speak to me till this day. He was upset because I questioned him about making sprinters doing distance workouts in the woods. It was so stupid.
The ego on some coaches are trouble 😂
And it was awesome being out there with you. Thank you again for welcoming us Keinan! You’re an amazing coach
Thanks for coming out coach and received 🙏🏾
in my 3 middle school years of high jumping i have never hit the bar with my body. only my feet or butt have bumped it
Today’s is my night before track, and im super desperate to get it right before the big day, because our entire class only got 1 week of work and practice before our track session. I hope this helps.
You decide the outcome. No more hoping
Facts!
I’m doing high jump tomorrow! I’m so excited and it’s my first time. Thanks for this tutorial!!
Can I use my track cleats for practice without the spikes if that’s okay?
No. You don’t want rocks one the screw socket or damage them
talk that talk
Man. 💯
Oh my god, they run, jump, and fall so slowly. Kids these days are so lazy.
He has terrible form. All the great runners make it look easy, even at the high school level, he has always made it look hard
Correct! Finally, somebody got it right. I've been saying this for years. I don't know who is to blame but he still runs like an amateur. I don't know if it's his coaching, training or maybe another factor that we don't know but at the moment, it appears as though he's already peaked. He's a good dude and I wish him well but CLEARLY, HE NEEDS HELP.
How would you rate the cushion on these, I've used the nike triple jump elite 2 for a while but they wear out too fast so I've been looking for a comfortable and durable triple jump spike
Cushion 6 of 10. They rely on the track to be your cushion. The new version of the adizero are a 9 of 10. The Nike elite 2 are too soft
Thank you for sharing this.
This is really good information.
Glad you liked it
Hi im wondering.. do you think the jump is too high? Would he get more distance if he pushed forward instead of upward?
Nope these are the correct angles for short attach approach
I agree with this to a point. What I do as a coach is use it as learning opportunities either for mental toughness or preparation. If it’s windy, then it’s windy for every athlete. They are thinking the same thing as you. Try to use it as an advantage. Encourage the athlete by saying we train in poor conditions you can win this!” If you didn’t eat right or warm up correctly for your event, well next time you need to take accountability and responsibility for that.
The one girl in all black w the hat is real nice.. she can lift really good when landing.. 🎉
YES!!! Thank you!! I’m an assistant track coach for high school. The head coach is doing this. So many good athletes quit. I’m even at my breaking point. But hanging in there for the last few kids who I know mentally need me since its almost over.
We get to make positive impacts on these kids.
what do i need to do to improve like this im at 41'4.5 as 10th grader i wanna go 45-46 next year. what are the main things i should do this summer and winter for next season.
Join my virtual team. That’s what they all literally did.
How to improve drop leg
Www.leapsquadacademy.com
I feel like the skin on my legs are gonna peel off whenever it happens to me.
Damn that was so smooth
🔥 Been waiting for an opportunity to learn more directly from you. I’m going to email you now.
Your so right I agree with you your obviously someone that cares about your athletes.another thing I wish the west coast kids.
Do you think High Schoolers should spend the money on a spike like the Maxfly I have heard mixed things like these are mostly appropriate for college level and pros due to them being more experienced and having better technique
Yes! “Build it and they will come”. I will make a track talk live post on this also. Put yourself in the environment and the results will come. Aka buy the shoes to put you in the mental state and “environment to run/jump” like a college athlete.
Thanks
Welcome
This teaches me a lot
There's no medicine for it??
Absolutely brilliant athlete...but did the good lord flick him forward a little bit
this video put this into word so well, i’ve felt like track is more physical than mental but i’ve been seeing differently over the last months. i tell myself before a race ima pr and win my heat but it never happens maybe bc i’m setting goals that are unrealistic, i feel like i understand what u meant by setting little goals and working your way up. but even when i visualize myself having a great race and getting a new pr i end up not accomplishing those goals and it crushs me and makes me not even have faith in myself. i’m currently trying to work towards not letting the little things destroy me. i feel if i set goals and i’m not able to accomplish them it does more harm than good.
You are on the right pace. Start your journey, educate yourself. Find books to read, that really helped me.
