    Such a shame that the +2.4 wind was just over the legal limit. In reality what real difference would that have made? Maybe 1 or 2 cm at absolute most. Rules are rules sadly. He also had a fair amount of take off board still available to him to have maybe jumped even further.

    Could you explain the difference between the USATF National championship (in NY, NY this month) and the USATF junior Olympics (in TX next month)? My kids are ages 8-10 might quality. Curious which one to pursue. Not sure I want to do both. Thank!!

    • @keinanbriggs
      @keinanbriggs 20 дней назад

      Youth nationals is a “showcase” meet which is a meet anyone who has a mark can get into. Junior Olympics is a “tournament” that both USATF and AAU have that has rounds of elimination to make it to a JO national championship. The JO tournament is much more competitive which leads to a more competitive competition.

      Do the JO for more of a long term positive effect

    college is not developmental. it is youth elite competition. D1 is not a place for development. Freshmen in D1 are expected to compete for Conference and National Championship points from Day 1. There is no learning curve in D1 If an incoming athlete is not on the D1 program's target performances list they MIGHT be sent to that college's "feeder program". More often than not, those farm schools are the programmes from which the D1 recruited their assistant coaches. That familiarity with the NAIA/D3/NJCAA school and state or regional level highschoolers. Those assistants will be expected to be familiar with that athlete pool. That familiarity will not last forever, as assistant coaches move on quite frequently. The level of "churn" with specific events coaches has more to do with pay than to do with either competency or loyalty. S&C coaches are not all the same. MOST S&C coaches in college programmes are certified from the lowest-cost, Olympic weightlifting-focused programmes. A college degree in S&C, physiology or exercise science is nearly useless-but they help former scholarship athlete graduates get internships (less than minimum wage pay, too many athletes in the program for proper supervision of S&C goals). ALL S&C coaches must also have a proper internship where they have DEMONSTRATED competency and excellence. Which athletes won? What were their progressions under the coach? If they cannot show this, then they are hiding something-or simply not experienced enough for you to expect good results. Is that D1 program's Seniors competing for championships? Because that's gonna be YOU in 4 years! If the current crop of athletes haven't improved, are not competing for rings, and are not in the race for Conference championships-then YOU ARE THE VEHICLE THEY EXPECT TO TAKE THEM THERE! Top programmes RELOAD not REBUILD. The transfer portal has changed the game for scholarship-ready freshmen. You are competing against kids who went to JuCo for two years and have proven themselves. A top D1 school in a competitive conference is NOT TAKING RISKS. They are reloading their roster.

    Hey Coach, I just finished my 8th grade track season. My best jump was 40’4” in the triple jump and 18’8” in the long jump (second time ever doing long jump). I want to get a full ride scholarship to a d1 school. Do you think I have what it takes? If so, what do I need to do to get there? (Videos are on my channel)

    you have to have a higher heel recovery on first phase I am a 44ft+ triple jumper rn in highschool and one thing that really helped me was almost hugging my jumping leg in mid air on my first phase You can see knee bends only about half the distance it should it should come up and be tucked under his hamstring and then extended again

    You are exactly right. I had a jumper this year that NEVER touched the board in competition. I had a bribe out there for her if she ever fouled…never happened. I was convinced that it was a perfectionist trait, but hadn’t considered that it might be a fear of failure or shame. Second…I firmly believe that there has never been a perfect triple jump. There’s so much going on that there’s always something that can be improved. I bet Willie Banks and Jonathan Edwards would agree!

    Former AAU coach here. I helped an upcoming sophomore train over the summer into indoor season. We did weights, plyometrics and sled work up to December. The coach trained her like she was out of shape with the other kids. Her performance dropped by .6 in the 100m and 2 seconds in the 200m. He couldn’t stand me for training her because everyone else knew what I did. I contacted several IVY league schools and got her into UPenn. This was over 18 years ago and he won’t speak to me till this day. He was upset because I questioned him about making sprinters doing distance workouts in the woods. It was so stupid.

      Correct! Finally, somebody got it right. I've been saying this for years. I don't know who is to blame but he still runs like an amateur. I don't know if it's his coaching, training or maybe another factor that we don't know but at the moment, it appears as though he's already peaked. He's a good dude and I wish him well but CLEARLY, HE NEEDS HELP.

    I agree with this to a point. What I do as a coach is use it as learning opportunities either for mental toughness or preparation. If it’s windy, then it’s windy for every athlete. They are thinking the same thing as you. Try to use it as an advantage. Encourage the athlete by saying we train in poor conditions you can win this!” If you didn’t eat right or warm up correctly for your event, well next time you need to take accountability and responsibility for that.

      Yes! “Build it and they will come”. I will make a track talk live post on this also. Put yourself in the environment and the results will come. Aka buy the shoes to put you in the mental state and “environment to run/jump” like a college athlete.

    this video put this into word so well, i’ve felt like track is more physical than mental but i’ve been seeing differently over the last months. i tell myself before a race ima pr and win my heat but it never happens maybe bc i’m setting goals that are unrealistic, i feel like i understand what u meant by setting little goals and working your way up. but even when i visualize myself having a great race and getting a new pr i end up not accomplishing those goals and it crushs me and makes me not even have faith in myself. i’m currently trying to work towards not letting the little things destroy me. i feel if i set goals and i’m not able to accomplish them it does more harm than good.
